How to watch The Hot Zone season 2 online for free

watch The Hot Zone season 2

Season 2 of The Hot Zone will begin on November 28 at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT). Just like the first time around, there’ll be six episodes in total, with two airing each night for three consecutive nights. Instead of the ebola virus, the focus this season will be on the spate of anthrax attacks that swept the US in 2001. Interested? Take a look below to find out how you can live stream The Hot Zone for free, from anywhere in the world.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that we don’t recommend watching via unofficial sources. Aside from being legally and ethically dubious, these tend to offer subpar video quality and there’s no guarantee they’ll even remain accessible until the show is over. With lots of legitimate ways to watch (some of them free), there’s really no reason to resort to shady methods.

The Hot Zone season 2 will only be shown on geo-restricted streaming services. This means that if you’re traveling abroad at the moment and hoping to watch on your usual channels back home, you’ll need a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

How to stream The Hot Zone online from abroad

Simply put, VPNs are privacy tools that can be used to hide your online activities from snoopers. One of their secondary functions is that they can make it seem like you’re browsing from a different location, which can help you regain access to your usual services as you travel.

Here’s how to watch The Hot Zone (season 2) online from anywhere:

  1. Begin by registering with a suitable VPN provider. We recommend NordVPN but Surfshark and ExpressVPN are two excellent alternatives.
  2. Download and install the VPN app onto any device you regularly use for streaming. You’ll usually be allowed to connect five or so devices at any one time, although the exact connection limit varies from one service to another.
  3. Log in to the VPN and select a server in your home country. This will provide you with a local IP address and prevent geo-blocked services from realizing you ever left.
  4. Sign in to Nat Geo’s website or app and try playing a video. It should begin right away, but if you’re having trouble, clear your cookies and refresh the page to resolve the most common issues.

This show will be broadcast live, so we’d encourage you to spend a few minutes making sure your VPN works properly ahead of time. If you run into any problems, just get in touch with customer support for one-on-one assistance. All of the VPNs above offer free 24/7 live chat.

The Hot Zone will air from November 28–31 on National Geographic, which gives us plenty of options as to how we watch. You can stream two episodes from 9 PM each night, or tune in the following day to marathon the latest four from 7 PM. Naturally, you can stream episodes on-demand too, assuming you can sign into the website or app with a supported cable TV provider.

If you’re looking to watch The Hot Zone without cable, you can log in using a fuboTV, Hulu with Live TV, or YouTube TV account. Notably, all of these services offer a free trial that’s long enough for you to stream the entire second season. Sling TV is supported too, but this doesn’t have a trial period; it just cuts the cost of your first month to $10 (GBP £7.47) instead.

Still not caught up on the first season? No problem: all six episodes of The Hot Zone season one are available free of charge on Nat Geo. There’s no login, registration, or payment info required.

National Geographic is region-locked, and changes its content based on your location. In other words, you’ll likely need a VPN to stream The Hot Zone outside of the US. NordVPN is an extremely versatile service that offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, meaning you’ll have the opportunity to try it out risk-free. If you’re unimpressed, just cancel to receive a full refund.

Where else can I watch The Hot Zone online?

The Hot Zone season 2 will be broadcast in a couple of other countries as well as the US. Take a look below to find out which networks are showing new episodes where you are:

Canada

Nat Geo Canada will be releasing season two at the same time as it’s shown in the US (9 PM ET from November 28). However, unlike in the US, you can’t stream this channel’s content on its website, even if you have cable TV.

Instead, you’ll need an Amazon Prime Video account (CAD $7.99/GBP £4.69 per month) with the StackTV add-on ($12.99/ GBP £7.62 per month). This might seem a little steep, but both of these services include a 30-day free trial. This means you can stream the whole second season of The Hot Zone for free, provided you remember to cancel before the trials end. As an added bonus, StackTV carries the first season, so you’ll be able to refresh your memory before the premiere.

The StackTV add-on is only available in Canada, so if you’re traveling abroad, you’ll need a VPN to use it.

UK

British fans have to wait a few days extra, but given we often get TV shows a year after their US premiere, this is still pretty good. The second season will be shown at 9 PM GMT on Nat Geo from December 1-3. If you have cable TV, you’ll be able to watch online using the Sky Go or Virgin TV Go apps.

To stream Nat Geo without cable, you’ll need a Now TV account with an active Entertainment pass. These actually come with a seven-day free trial, so make a note to cancel once you’ve seen all of the new episodes. If you forget, you’ll be automatically renewed at £9.99 ($13.36) per month.

If you’d like to get caught up on the first season, you’ll have to sign up for Disney+. Unfortunately, this service no longer has a free trial, and it costs £7.99 ($10.69) per month.

All of the services above are region-locked. This means that if you’re on vacation abroad, you’ll need a VPN to use them.

What can we expect from season 2 of The Hot Zone?

Officially, the second season is called The Hot Zone: Anthrax, so its subject matter is not exactly a secret. The season 2 trailer shows Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O) and Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, Chambers) as investigators attempting to discover who is behind the spate of anthrax attacks that shook America in the weeks following 9/11. The key difference this time around is that there’s a true crime element to this season, since unlike the ebola virus, these anthrax spores were deliberately sent in the mail with the intent of killing journalists and politicians.
